Monthly Fire Extinguisher Checks:
Functional Testing: Confirm proper operation, safety seals, tags, and pressure gauge readings.
Visual Inspections: Check placement, tamper indicators, hose/nozzle condition, and visibility.
Ensure Operating Instructions are Legible: Verify the nameplate is facing outward.
Safety Seals & Tamper Indicators: Confirm they are intact.
Fullness Check: Weigh or lift to confirm.
Physical Examination: Inspect for corrosion, leaks, and nozzle clogs.
Pressure Gauge: Ensure it’s in the operable range.
Check Tires, Wheels, Carriage, and Nozzle: For wheeled units.
HMIS Label: Confirm it's in place.
Annual Fire Extinguisher Maintenance:
Functional Testing: Conduct a conductivity test for carbon dioxide hose assemblies, confirm safety seals, tags, and pressure gauge readings.
Visual Inspections: All monthly checks, plus carbon dioxide conductivity tests.
Inspection of Shell & Nameplate: Determine if a 6-year or hydrotest is needed.
Hanger/Seismic Bracing: Verify proper installation.
5-Year Fire Extinguisher Interval:
Hydrostatic Testing: For carbon dioxide, wet chemical, foam, and dry systems.
Hydrostatic Testing for Cartridges: Linked to portable and wheeled units.
Hydrostatic Testing of CO2 Hoses: Equipped with shut-off valves.
6-Year Fire Extinguisher Test:
Stored Pressure Extinguishers: Those needing a 12-year hydrostatic test should be emptied and undergo relevant maintenance.
12-Year Fire Extinguisher Interval:
Hydrostatic Testing: For dry chemical and clean agent extinguishers, and dry chemical hoses with shut-off valves.
